Privacy Policy
MyAFBase (the "App") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how your information is handled when you use our mobile application and our website (collectively, the "Service").
Unlike typical modern applications, MyAFBase is built with a privacy-first, local-only architecture. We believe that your assignment details, pay schedules, fitness records, and accomplishment logs belong to you and nobody else.
I. Non-Affiliation and Independent Status
MyAFBase is an independent community application developed by an individual developer. It is not affiliated with, authorized, sponsored, endorsed by, or in any way officially connected to the United States Department of Defense (DoD), the Department of the Air Force, the United States Space Force, or any other military branch or government agency.
No official military database, credential system, or official personnel record is accessed, stored, or modified by this App.
II. Information We Do Not Collect
Because of our local-first design:
- No Account Required: You do not need to create an account, log in, or provide an email address, phone number, or password to use the App.
- No Core Server Database: We do not host central databases that store your personal information, assignments, PCS checklists, readiness dates, or WAR Tracker entries.
- No Behavioral Tracking: We do not use third-party analytics SDKs that track your individual behavior, build user profiles, or sell your data.
III. Data Collected and How It Is Used
While we do not collect personal information on our own servers, the App utilizes secure local and device-level integrations to function:
A. User-Entered Data (Local Device Storage)
Any data you enter into the App—including but not limited to readiness due dates (fitness test, immunizations, CDCs), customized PCS checklists, PFRA calculator parameters, and accomplishments logged in the WAR Tracker (Weekly Action Report)—is stored locally on your device.
iCloud Syncing: If you are signed into an Apple iCloud account on your iOS or iPadOS device and have iCloud Drive/App syncing enabled, your on-device data will sync across your personal devices via Apple's secure iCloud infrastructure. We do not have access to your iCloud account, your iCloud credentials, or any data stored within your private iCloud container.
B. Direct Feedback and Support Messages
If you choose to contact us with feedback, feature requests, or bug reports via our opt-in feedback form, we collect:
- The message content you write.
- Your email address (if you choose to provide it for a reply).
- Basic, non-identifying technical metadata (such as App version and iOS version) to help us troubleshoot.
Critical Safety Warning: You are strictly prohibited from submitting any Personally Identifiable Information (PII) (such as Full Names, SSNs, DoD ID numbers, or exact unit rosters), Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI), Sensitive Personnel Data, Classified Information, or operational security (OPSEC) sensitive details through the feedback form. Any feedback found to contain such data will be immediately and permanently deleted.
C. Remote Base Data & Base Data Updates
To keep base contacts, maps, hours, and gate statuses current, the App periodically requests updated base definition files from a content delivery network (CDN) or remote configuration file hosted securely by us.
- IP Address Processing: Standard web servers automatically receive your device's IP address when fetching these base configuration updates. This IP address is processed temporarily for network transmission and security logging only. It is not linked to any personal identity, stored permanently, or used for tracking.
- Cryptographic Signatures: Remote config files are checked for integrity on-device to prevent tampering.
D. Third-Party API Integrations
- Weather Information: To display local base weather, the App queries public APIs (such as the National Weather Service/NWS). These queries transmit your selected installation location to retrieve weather telemetry. No identifying user data is attached to these requests.
- Interactive Maps & Directions: Base maps and routing are powered by Apple Maps. Use of map features is subject to Apple's privacy policies.
- App Store Telemetry (Apple): If you opt in to share crash logs and diagnostics with developers through iOS System Settings, Apple provides us with anonymous, aggregated diagnostic reports.
IV. Legal Compliance & State-Specific Statutes
A. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA)
Our Service is directed to active-duty military personnel, reserve component members, civilian employees, and military adult dependents. We do not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from anyone under the age of 13.
B. CCPA/CPRA (California) & GDPR (European Union)
Because we do not store, process, or sell personal identifiers or user profiles on a central server, we do not engage in "sales" or "sharing" of personal data as defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) or the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Any data residing on your device can be completely erased at any time by deleting the App, clearing your iCloud data, or resetting the App's database via the settings menu.
